Interested in Martial arts in Bristol ? Come and try Krav Maga

If you are interested in martial arts or learning some self defence skills, why not come and try us out at Krav Maga Bristol. Training is simple, fast to learn and highly practical.  Krav Maga is probably the most proven combat method in the world and has been taught to over 500 military and law enforcement units because its fast to learn and works - even in the worst situations.

About Krav Maga Bristol

Krav Maga Bristol was one of the first Krav Maga Schools in the UK. We are a centre of excellence nationally and have trained more Krav Maga Instructors than any other school in the UK. We have trained every Krav Maga Instructor in the Bristol area –and have taught Instructors from the Police, Army, and the Royal Marine Commandos. In short, we are highly experienced and very good at what we do.

Your First Krav Maga Lesson

Krav Maga covers striking, clinching, grappling, ground fighting, weapons such as knives, baseball bats, firearms and multiple attackers. Your first lesson could cover anyone of these areas as we constantly rotate the theme. So if you come in on a particular theme don’t think that Krav Maga is just what ever you did that night.

What we look for in potential Krav Maga Students

Our training ethos is aimed very much at quality and outcome of training. We would rather have 20 committed students reflecting well on Krav Maga and our training, that 60 poorly trained ones.  As a result we cherry pick the most committed students. Experience has shown that the strongest  indicator of success is not fitness, previous martial arts experience or or even ability but consistant, dilligent training. As a consequence we will only invite students that are preparedto commit to regular training for a period of at least 3 months.

No prior Martial Arts or Krav Maga training ?

Not a problem.  Its a fresh canvas for us, you bring no habits or baggage for us to undo.  We find typically that those with no previous martial arts training fit in quite comfortably, quite quickly. Krav Maga is fairly simple and intuitive and once you have mastered the basics - its just a case of applying them to a broader range of situations.

Will I get Hurt ?

Martial arts specifically, and krav maga generally are very safe.  Typically they are safer than activities like football, hockey, rugby with less major injuries per 100 participants. Training is hard, but progressive so you wont suddenly be put under pressure. Some schools run a  'chuck them in at the deep end'  approach. We totally reject this approach to training.  Its lazy, unsafe and an indicator of a poorly trained Instructor/Coach.

Krav Maga Lesson Format

We follow a pre planned and carefully structured format. The first 30 minutes typically consist of a tough and highly varied combat conditioning sessions called Crossfit. Its fast moving and great fun but remember, work at your own pace!

Following this you will cover striking and movement, or do pad work drills followed by some aspect of combat striking. Then we start building up to a scenario or specific skills such as edged weapons defence, multiple attacker training, or a scenario. We often train scenarios fromreal incidents and de construct the incident to explore options, techniques and skills under pressure.  You may cover happy slapping, carjacking and cash point robbery through to knife and gun threats. Its great fun, high energy and proven as combat effective.

Before you start your first Krav Maga Lesson

Please arrive a few minutes early so I can spend some time with you before the session. I will meet with you to have a quick chat about Krav Maga, safety rules and introduce myself.  Good training should be progressive and structured, so we don’t just ‘drop you in the deep end’.  You won’t get hurt and you won’t be expected to do anything you are not comfortable with. We don’t make any assumptions about your fitness or level of experience.  After that you'll start learning how to punch, kick, wrestle, deal with weapons, multiple attackers and what to do if it all goes wrong. Don’t worry, that's not all on your first lesson :-)

Your health and fitness

You must tell us if you have any health issues or injuries prior to the training.  We can then train you appropriately. If you have not been active for sometime let us know. Generally we advise you work at around 50% capacity stopping if you feel uncomfortable, breathless, giddy or experience muscle/ joint pains. If you are injured, unfit, overweight or over 45 years of age we urge a conservative approach toward training.

What to expect
We cater for all levels of fitness and experience.  We pride ourselves on our community ethos, and standards of training. Your fellow students were all beginners and will always show you the ropes if you can’t get the hang of things.  You will be encouraged and supported in the lesson; you won’t be hurt or made to do anything you don’t want to.

And Finally…

Come with an open mind and enjoy yourself. We maintain a great community of friendly people and we have all been beginners so get stuck in and enjoy the experience.
